My Political Compass
As created today on politicalcompass.org this below is my personal political compass. The result comes after you answered more than 60 questions… the typical issues that arise in all societies since earliest times… the typical spectrum of the human mind. This essentially also means that none of them are wrong or right if not taken to the extremes…
Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -8.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.51
so this alone isn’t so easy to interpret. See below another chart for comparison with more famous people than me… US presidential candidates…
and another one with more examples…
Interesting for me is, how it is explained in The Political Compass, that it is important to make a distinction between economic and social or state factors. They both must be separated and the same people will be on different coordinates…
Especially sad today is, that currently all major political parties are in the upper right corner be that economic or social matters. Most politicians are rather authoritarian and their explanations are mostly based on economics rather than social aspects… the same rather authoritarian development can be observed in societies as well.
The authoritarian Zeitgeist comes along with pure rightwing neoliberalism… which unfortunately as nothing much to do with personal freedom nor civil rights…
Thus, one of my favorites is still — Henri Lacordaire’s speech (1802-1861), in 52e Conférence de Notre-Dame, 1848 and one abstract of it…
“…Between the strong and the weak, between the rich and the poor, between the master and the servant, it is liberty which oppresses and law that frees…”
or in original french
“…Entre le fort et le faible, entre le riche et le pauvre, entre le maître et le serviteur, c’est la liberté qui opprime et la loi qui libère…”
which accordingly explains it all… almost.
