Mit dem aktuellsten Firefox Browser 19 (Nightly Version 21.x für x64 Version) wird ein neues Standard Theme installiert welches den Fensterrahmen vom Browser schön Transparent erscheinen lässt.

Nach der Installation de letzten Browsers erschent eine Aufforderung ob man das Default Theme isntalleiren möchte. Wird dese Anfrage bestätigt erscheint spätenstens nach einem Neustart der Applikation der Transparente Fensterrahmen.

In Windows 7 mit Firefox 19 sieht das dann so aus…

und in Windows 8 mit Firefox Nightly x64 Version 21 so…

Die schöne Transparenz ist nicht vorhanden. Das Mtro GUI von IWndows 8 hat keine transparenz mehr wie man sie von Windows Vista und WIndows 7 her kennt.

das Aero Transparente GUI ist mit Windows 8 ganz verschwunden und wurde durch das Metro GUI ersetzt. Die Taskleiste ist nach wie vor Transparent und auch einige andere Aero funktionen sind geblieben. Nur die transparenten Rahmen um die Applikationsfenster sind nicht mehr da.

der vergleichmit den beiden Browsern zwischen den beiden Betriebssystemen ist rein zufällig. Für Windows 8 verwende ich die nur die Nightly x64 Version von Firefox und für WIndows 7 sowohl die x86 und auch die x64 Version von Firefox.

MediaMonkey 1.0 for the Metro GUI of Windows 8 is available.

MediaMonkey 4.0 music player and multimedia collection manager for the windows desktop is my long time favorite to manage and play my music collection. It is in my opinion the most usable music collection manager and music player.

As a long time user of the media player Media Monkey for the Windows desktop I was already thinking about a version of MediaMonkey for the Metro GUI for Windows 8. Since i tagged, corrected and added mp3 tags, sorted, managed and put album art into all my mp3 files with Media Monkey since like forever I thought about how the metro design for it could look.

Since a couple of days you can get MediaMonkey for the Windows 8 Metro GUI. It is working well and I want you to see a couple of screenshots here. This design is for the Metro GUI and therefore designed to be operated with your fingers as well as with the mouse.

There is as of now no special page for the MediaMonkey Metro App for Windows 8. So search for it in the Windows 8 store. Here is the link to the MediaMonkey Website.

1: This is how it looks right after starting the application. Notice the grouping in the square fields in the left for Artists, Albums, Tracks, Genres, Audiobooks… and just to the right of it the “All Music” recently played. The window looks so empty because this is from my desktop with a resolution of 1200×1900. On a desktop with a smaller resolution everything will look bigger.

On the lower part you can see the blue audio signal indicator and in the left corner the “playing now” information while on the right corner you see the buttons for Play, Pause, Backward, Forward.

At the same time i have installed the metro version of MediaMonkey i have also installed the desktop version…. I have a music collection of about 30GB with mp3 files most of them with tagged information and album art… together with your favorite music player you do can enjoy your music collection while working at your desktop computer or while being outside on the move with your mobile device…

Now what remains is the get some more experience with MediaMonkey for the Metro GUI…

…and my wish would be a x64 version instead of x86…

You can find the MediaMonkey Player in your Windows 8 Store…  if you keep your music and video files in the default Microsoft Windows 8 locations you just have to start the media player and see how the database is filling up with information from your multimedia collection

Some additions: The app takes a crash an disappears while building up the music collection in the DB… the Windows 8 (Windows 8, ENG, x64) event log has the following entries:

Another Addition; There is an update as of 16.02.13 taking it up to version 1.0.1.29  in the Windows 8 Store which seems to correct the issue with the crashes and sudden disapperance. The player seems to be able to collect more data/music from the directories as well.

Die Matrix der Moral “Moral Matrix” von Stephane Dubois wurde vor einigen Jahren (2004-2008) durch zahlreiche Umfragen von mehreren 100’ tausend Befragten erarbeitet und in diverse Grafische Darstellungen gebracht.

Die Vorstellungswelt jedes Menschen und ihre Grenzen werden damit gut erkennbar aufgezeigt. Fast könnte man feststellen, das hier die Grenzen menschlichen Denkens oder anders, die Grenzen der Menschlichen Vorstellunsgwelt aufgezeigt werden…

Als erstes Beispiel die Matrix mit den bekannten Formen die sich etwa in der Politk deutlich machen aber eben auch im täglichen Umgang mit unseren Mitmenschen… Jede Aussage, ob nun mündlich oder schriftlich kann in einem der Quadranten eingeordnet und abgelegt werden.

…dann als Ueberbau die Ideolgie welche das Weltbild und Argumentarium für unser Dasein liefert…

Man erkennt hier schon

die Linken,

die Bürgerlichen,

die Rechten,

die Liberalen,

die Sozialisten

und wie sie noch alle heissen in ihren vielfältigen Auftreten und Varianten. Hier dürfte schon deutlicher werden in welchem Qudranten sich der geneigte Leser selber befindet.

Ideologie

und hier geht es weiter zu einer Reihe von Quadranten die sich aus Umfragen in spezifischen Regionen ergeben haben. Gut zu erkennen ist, das sich die Sozialen Aspekte eigentlich in jeder Gesellschaft als übrragen darstellen. Um so merkwürdügr scheitn es, das die Gesellschaf tim täglichen Umgang imemr authoritärer und geiziger wird. Dem einzelnen also nicht mehr viel lassen möchte was man selber glaubt nicht zu haben…

Für mich ist interessant zu sehen, das sich die Matrix in allen Regionen ähnlich darstellt. Die Details zu jeder Umfrage sind in jeder Umfrage Matrix ersichtlich… So lässt sich feststellen das Sozialismus und Soziales das vorherrschende Ideologie zu sein scheint und nur in den USA das Libertäre vorherrscht…

Es gibt noch eine ganze Reihe Quadranten in Varianten die uns unsere Ideologischen Fundamente, unser Weltbild und wie wir uns und andere sehen aufzeigen, aber nicht wie uns andere sehen…

Eine interessante Zusammenfassung und Links zum Thema Neoliberale Verbrechen an der Gesellschaft aus den letzten 30 Jahren.

….verdanken wir den Regierungen Kohl, Schröder und Merkel.
Das “Spiel” läuft also schon mehr als 30 Jahre.
Ich weiß, dass lange Artikel (leider) nicht gelesen werden.
Darum mein – lange überlegtes – Fazit vorweg: Es ist endlich und
dringend eine grundsätzliche Änderung der (Europa-)Politik
erforderlich. Auch wenn ich Steinbrück als Kanzler schätzen würde,
werde ich bei der nächsten Wahl noch linker wählen, auch wenn ich
“Die Piraten” gerne in der Regierung sehen würde.

Ein paar Fakten vorweg (weil man immer so leicht vergisst).
Mit Kohl (1982) fing alles an
Kohl begann mit der Privatisierungen sozialstaatlicher Aufgaben (z.B.
Krankenkassen, Rest aus WP):
- Erhöhung der Arbeitslosenversicherung von 4 % auf 4,6 %
- Kürzung der Zuschüsse für die Bundesanstalt für Arbeit um 1,3 Mrd.
DM
- Wiedereinführung des Krankenversicherungsbeitrages für Rentner
- Kürzungen beim Kinder- und Wohngeld sowie Ausbildungsförderung
- Eine für 1983/84 befristete unverzinsliche, rückzahlbare
Investitionshilfeabgabe (“Zwangsabgabe”) von 5 % der Steuerschuld für
Besserverdienende wird eingeführt (diese wird 1984 für
verfassungswidrig erklärt).
- Senkung steuerlicher Belastungen von Unternehmen
- Die mündliche Gewissensprüfung für Wehrdienstverweigerer wird
abgeschafft.
- Verlängerung des Zivildienstpflicht von 16 auf 20 Monate
- Parteispendenaffäre
Die “Reform-Diktatur” Schröders (und führender Köpfe)
Schröder (Koalition SPD und Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) prügelten die
Agenda 2010 durch. Prinzip: “Fordern und Fördern” (Seit dem wird nur
noch gefordert.)
Die Liste der Ungerechtigkeiten ist zu lang, um sie hier aufzulisten,
darum: <https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agenda_2010>. Viele SPDler
traten aus Protest aus und gingen zur “Die Linke”.
Führende Köpfe der SPD, Schröder, Müntefering, Steinmeier und der
derzeitige Kanzlerkandidat Steinbrück(!), sind weiterhin strenge
Befürworter dieser Politik. Die Medien prophezeiten beim
Regierungswechsel 2009 (schwarz-gelben Koalition, Kabinett Merkel)
eine weitere Abkühlung der “sozialen Kälte”.
(Steinbrück hat sich auch schon etwas mehr “Beinfreiheit” erbeten. Es
ist daher ebenfalls mit einer “Diktatur” zu rechnen.)
Die alternativlose Politik Merkels (das “Ziehkind” Kohls und
Politikerin mit der besten “Teflon-Qualität”) Dabei war eine weitere Abkühlung gar nicht erforderlich! Die
Regierung Merkel freute sich über die Vorarbeit der
Schröder-Regierung – da war nichts mehr zu verschlimmbessern, es
konnte alles erstmal so bleiben – außer:
- Die größte Steuererhöhung in der BRD: Mehrwertsteuer um 3% (im
Gespräch waren gar 4-5%)
- Befürworterin der Agenda 2010, “Neuen Sozialen Marktwirtschaft”
- Befürworterin des Einsatzes der Bundeswehr im Irak-Krieg,
“Koalition der Willigen”
- Hotelübernachtungen wurden von 19 auf 7% gesenkt, Klientelpolitik
der FDP
- Festhalten an Guttenberg, “Plagiatsaffäre”
- Griechenland (10 Millionen Einwohner) erhielt Kredit von 80
Milliarden Euro
- Abschaffung der Wehrpflicht, Auslandseinsätze zur
“Landesverteidigung am Hindukusch” (Struck)
- (Be-)Förderung Wulffs zum Bundespräsidenten gegen die
Meinungsmehrheit der Bevölkerung (Na ja, Gauck ist ja doch geworden,
nur leider zahlen wir jetzt 200.000 Euro/Jahr mehr!)
- “Wendehals-Politik”, Atomausstieg
- “Abstrafung” Röttgens für die Landtagswahl-Niederlage in NRW
- “Kaputt-Sparen” der PIGS-Länder
Die Schere zwischen arm und reich…usw. usf… Gewinne werden
privatisiert, Verluste weiterhin sozialisiert. Und jetzt sollen wir
eben auch noch für die Straßen erneut zahlen. Schweinerei!
Immobilien-, Banken-, Schulden-, Finanz-,… Euro-Krise und bisher
keine Maßnahmen der Regierenden gegen diese Zockerei!
Bisher kann mit Fug und Recht von einem euphemistischen Gebrauch des
Begriffs Reform bei allen Reformen ausgegangen werden, und alle zum
Nachteil der Mehrheit der (EU-)Bevölkerung:

Auf der Collusion Seite wird folgendes erklärt…

Die grösse der Kreise ist ein Indikator über die Menge der Daten die transferiert worden sind.

Wie findet man das auf den ersten Eindruck hin? Analysen in grafischer Darstellung über die “inneren” Aktivitäten von Cookies, Webservern und Browsern !

Zeigt es doch mal auf einen Blick was da im Prinzip vor sich geht… im geheimen, versteckt, unbemerkt aber sicher nicht unbeabsichtigt. Denn das muss alles programiert und konfiguriert werden. Die Regel ist ja, ohne das die Anwender etwas davon merken noch ihre Zustimmung oder Ablehnung abgefragt worden ist.

Alles so wunderbar Industrie und Werbewirtschaftsfreundlich. Jeder Datensammler erklärt sich als völlig unschuldig und banalisiert das enorme Anaylsepotential der gesammelten Datenbestände über bald alle Erdbwohner in der Hand einiger Aktiengesellschaften.

Gruselige Vorstellung… Nicht?

In den meisten Fällen zumindest… man kann Cookies ja prinzipiell blockieren doch dann wird auch das Surf Erlebnis eliminiert… und nicht zu vergessen, die anderen quasi personalisierten Daten die ohne weiteres hin und her geschickt, gespeichert, anaylsiert werden.

Hier als weiteres Beispiel über den Elan und die Uebermittlungs und Vermittlungsfreude des Webserver vom The Guardian, einer Tageszeitung aus England (die ich übrigens sehr empfehle)

Standard Daten die beim passiven Browsen übermittelt werden sind etwa, IP Adresse, Länderkennung, Browsertyp, Betriebssystem, Sprache, Plugins, Bildschirmgrösse, Farbdichte… und beliebig vieles mehr… keine Abschliessende Aufzählung.

Das Plugin analysiert die bereits vom Browser gespeicherten Cookies und zeigt in einer grafischen Darstellung welche besuchte Seite Informationen des Besuchers an andere Seiten sendet.

Auf diese Weise wird schnell ersichtlich wie wenig wir die Daten- und Informationsströme die über uns und unser Verhalten im Internent kontrollieren können.

Hier als letztes und schon fast harmlos erscheindendes beispiel die Seite der BBC, einer staatlichen Medienanstalt aus England. Hier zeigt sich auch deutlich das die unkontrollierte Sammelwut privater Entitäten mittlerweile wesentlich grösser, frecher und unverantworlticher sind als diejenigen der staatlichen Entitäten bei denen wir als Bürger eigentlich unsere Volskvertreter entsenden um die Rechte der Bürger zu vertreten. Dabei heraus kommen aber vermehrt nur noch Pflichten für die Bürger und Gesellschaft…. Rechte erhalten die Börsenkotierten Gesellschaften…

Hauptursache für das magere Ergebnis des BBC Servers dürfte sein, das die privaten Medienbetrieber den staatlichen Medien gerne ihre Werbeeinnahmen entziehen so das auch hier wieder die Profite privatisiert, die Verluste vergesellschaftet werden. Mit anderen Worten, der Webserver der BBC sendet wenig bis gar keine Daten an externe Werbekunden, Agenturen, Vermarkter, Produkteforscher etc.

…dank dem aktuellen Zeitgeist, hervorgerufen durch die Neoliberalen Dogmen der bald 30 jahre andauernden Staats, Gemeinschafts und auch Demokratieverachtung, wird liberalisierungen in immer authoritäreren Varianten Vortrieb gegeben wo eigentlich Staatlich-Gemeinschaftliche Regelwerke das tun aller Akteure bestimmen sollten…

Nebst den Politisch Soziologisch Gesellschaftlichen Aspekten ist zumindest die Gefahr der privaten Sammelwut in Teilen der Bevölkerung erkannt worden.

Nicht erfasst durch das Collusion Plugin werden andere Techniken des Datensammelns etwa durch Flash Plugins oder Java Scripting etc.

Speziell die Aufforderung zu “Take Control of your Data” ist mit der heutigen globalisierten Verachtung für Privatsphäre und der gleichzeitigen Euphorie und einem naiven Enthusiasmus des Publizierens von persönlichen Daten (die man oft nicht mal den nächsten Freunden und Verwandten mitteilen würde) durch die Anwender selber, erheblich erschwert…

…nicht Globalisiert und für die Bürger und Zivilgesellschaften verbindlich geregelt sind leider noch unzählige andere Aspekte der heutigen aktuellen Form der Globalisierung wie etwa der gesamte Sozial- und Rentenbereich, Arbeitsgesetz, Stimm- Mitsprache und Wahlrechte…

Es gibt kein Global verbindliches Gesetz welches die Datensamler, zum grössten teil US basierte und Börsenkotierte Gesellschaften mit Milliardenprofiten ohne eine irgendwie verbindliche Gesellschafltiche Verantwortung verpflichten würde alle Daten eines Menschen auf deren Servern zu löschen…

Hier eine Uebersicht welche das Collusion Plugin aus meinem Internetverhalten analysiert hat. Der grosse Kreis in der Mitte zu dem alles geleifert wird gehört zu Google Analytics, der zweite etwas kleinere gehört zu doupleclick.net… es gibt praktisch keine Seite im Netz mit grösserer Reichweite ohne das Google die Besucher kennt ohne das diese die Google Seite besuchen. Weitergegeben wird sicher mal die IP Adresse, aber auch die Browserkennung, Bildschirmgrösse und Suchbegriffe….

Die Datensamlung der Firma sollte dringenst in öffentliche Kontrolle gelangen damit über die Verwendung der daten debatiert werden kann. Es geht nicht, das eine Handvoll Aktionäre darüber bestimmen… ähnlich wie bei den Social Networks und deren Daten.  Diese Unternehmen bewegen sich in einem quasi Rechtsfreien Raum wärend alle anderen die sich lediglich National bewegen an teils strenge Datenschutzgesetze halten müssen. Zumindest in Europa wärend die Unternehmen in denUSA mit den Kundendaten machen können was Sie wollen… zum Beispiel werdne dese beim Konkurs oder Uebernahme einer Firma weiterverkauft…

For a couple of weeks now, I’m playing around with Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 which I have installed on several desktop computers, servers in virtual and physical environments. Both, the desktop and the server, are in productive environments in a standard windows domain.

The domain and active directory are on a 2003 domain functional level and are about to be upgraded to 2008 in the next couple of weeks.

Shortly my testing environment will be a windows 2012 domain controller active directory. An existing UNIX DNS server hosting a special exclusive active directory zone for the domain controllers only. A separate zone will be setup for the client computers. This is because we do have a fixed name space for the corporate Intranet already and can keep this one with this setup. Any number of active directory DNS name spaces can be maintained this way with just one DNS server…

Now what I realised just recently while working and experimenting with windows 8… guess what?

The start menu button of windows 8… while at work and at home as well, I frequently change two computers I use with a desktop-mouse-keyboard switch and the two environments of windows 7 and windows 8 in a way melt a little bit into each other.

No not really, but it feels like that…

The differences  between the two operating systems in handling day to day operations for a standard user (and administrator as well) are not that large if you just easily click around with your mouse. Except for the issue of the missing start button which lingers around. For example it is not easy to find the Icons for the RSAT admin tools i need and keep them floating around where I need them because I like to put them on the desktop. This seems to be a bit easier in windows 7… but windows 8 is easy anyway…

Some applications are installed, create an icon on the metro start menu-desktop and there with a right click of your mouse you can pin this to the task bar but not to the desktop. You are not even able to copy them from the taskbar to your desktop… Some situations exist where you miss the start menu and this are some of them… they keep popping up regularly.

In any case. If you ask me, Microsoft did a pretty good job designing the Metro GUI… I do not have a touch screen monitor yet nor do I have a windows phone or tablet to test all this with my fingers. A later feature will be to control the mobile devices with active directory 2012 GPO’s…

and back…to your old trusty desktop. But not to worry. It is no drama… at least not for the kind of people like me. Working with the Power Shell brings the sweat out in me much more…

I’m a GUI and Mouse man and if you are as well, windows 8 will be a pleasure to go with.

I just found out that the snipping tool is not capable of generating screen shots from the metro desktop. The one above is made with the classic “Print Screen Key” and cropped

Now, what did I wanted to say in the beginning? Ah yes, there you are… I do not miss the start button that is missing from windows 8 !

At least not as often as I did in the beginning… windows 8 melts into your hands and mouse no problem.

Windows 8 forces you to prepare your desktop with the icons you need the most and lets you work form there. Now, this means you still have the two choices of starting apps form the metro start menu or from the conventional desktop…

Just type into the new start-menu-metro-desktop GUI and applications are found, for example the CMD window or registry editor or your usual office applications.There you’ve got the options of starting them with administrative rights and more…

The metro designed GUI is much easier on the eyes than all previous versions.

It is all crisp clear lines. Similar as in some older UNIX environments. If you start an older application with colorful and many icons the GUI of this application looks heavy, and cluttered and nervous…

But, complex applications are complex..and need a lot of functions, configuration options and settings which the metro design can not deliver… yet.

A couple of years ago I saw this video about longboarding in some beautiful scenery in some place somewhere…

I could not find out where but I was fascinated about how longboarding looks different to the way I was on my skateboard many years ago…

I still have this skateboard… I think that just somewhere deep inside I always loved this sport…

While I was in France just recently I saw this shop display of Sector 9 longboards in a sports shop in the south west of France. Well it took me a bit of discussion with the friendly sales, some time over lunch and later on a glas of coke… it means I walked 2 times out of the shop because I could not make a decision of which board to buy…

This example below has blue wheels instead of the green ones I have. There are green, orange, red and blue versions around and think even some white ones.

This is the one I bought… length of 97cm or 38in.

Good  ! Really ! The board feels good under my feet…

Now I’ve got a Sector 9 Mountain Peaks longboard with this nice green wheels, black top and a light and easy looking graphic on the underside.

The board is made if 8 layers of Maple. It also features the Gullwing Sidewinder trucks and attached are the Sector 9 Soul Ride 69mm wheels. The baord is 38in or 97cm long, 9in. wide which is enough even for my size. Wheelbase is 28in. The board is easy and fun to go around…

My initial fear that I would be to heavy and the board difficult to maneuver did not turn out to be this way… After just a couple of hours of trying this board out I could feel the ease with which I could drive…

Now I’m into training a bit almost every day… highest speed after a couple of times was 22km/h… the most important part I’ve got to learn is… how to stop me and the board in a controlled fashion. I also need some protection like slide gloves and at least a helmet… but fun and enjoyment it already is…

Just recently back form a longer visit to France I rediscovered the “lavage avec mousse” way of washing your car. This means, your car gets extremely clean without touching it with a brush or anything else scratchy.

What you do is to spray your car from top to bottom with a special foam. It is this which eliminates and removes all kind of dirt from your car. Starting with the bugs and other insects form your windscreen down to the silicon, oil and dirt on the sides , tires and underbody.

This is the initially step of treating your car… foaming till it looks white all over…

See for yourself in a couple of pictures. First one is at a different place but has lots of this white foam on it so that is better visible on the photo…

White foam that takes all the bad dirty thing away from your car… this place just below is in the French part of Jura in the Doubs region.

Step 1, 2, 3 and for 4 below, rinsing your car squeaky clean…shine without a brush and very very proper…this one in the following 4 photos is in St. Julian en Born in Aquitaine…

…putting on even more of this white foam… which slowly eats away all the bad insects, oil and dirty form your car… just let it do it’s job for a couple of minutes..

Clean as new… shine all over, no insects, no is there any other kind of dirt left on your car… it even cleans the rims as good as new… surprise this gets done without any kind of brush or any other mechanical removal… except for some really hard to come by remains of insects from the front of the car which I take away with a wet cloth.

the happy car owner… and the shiny look on the car… looks and  feels clean and like new !

..not only is France a great country to spend your holidays or even live there, enjoy very good food and drink and enjoy the ocean at the Atlantic coast or the green fields of the Auvergne or the tasty cheese and wine all over the country. No, this is not all there is… they do know how to get your car to be looking as good as new… much better than the car wash stations here in Switzerland with the often very dirty brushes and foam that does not do much in comparison…

There is a thing about pastries. They are creative, tasty and beautiful things.If you are lucky you can buy some of the best at a pastry maker near you or as I have done in France.

French pastry makes are a real and pleasant surprise depending on the city or place where you are going to look for them.

Here is a beautiful and extremely tasty example form the pastry shop “Pâtisserie Fourcade”  in Mont sur Marsan in the south west of France.

Just by chance I walked by and saw the tasty looking beautiful creations. I could not stop to look, decided to go in and treat myself to a couple of this little sweets…

If you are every on your way to Mont de Marsan in Aquitaine in the south west of France and if you enjoy pastries, cakes and other local specialities as much as I do…. then do not hesitate to plan a visit.

But then of course, France pastry shops do give you delightful experiences in many other places all over France as well…. do not hesitate to try one of this creations.

These last couple of days I managed to download the *.iso images of Microsoft Windows 8 x64 CP and Microsoft Windows Server 2012…

Coming to a good use is my new workstation from HP, the modell Z620 with a fast XEON 3.6Ghz 4 Core CPU, 2 TB of storage, 16GB RAM, a really fast GEFORCE GTX670 graphics card and VMWare Workstation 8 installed…

Installing Windows 8 was a breeze and so was installing Windows Server 2012. Both with only a few initial configuration parameters they have been online, up and running in less than 30min…indenpendently from each other. To make the domain and active directory work properly I had to make some small adjustments in the networking options.

Now here on this post you will find a few bits of information about booting Windows 8 and Server 2012, find out what it is about the metro design, the desktop and the start menu, joining a domain and a couple of other functions.

See a couple of screen shots… see for yourself. There is not much text nor description because I think it is fun to find out as much as you can by yourself instead of reading about other peoples minds. Right?

My first impression is, it looks streamlined, modern, easy, light… the same look on your phone, tablet or workstation or server…

Microsoft Windows 8 CP Consumer Preview booting up…as usual, Microsoft is capable to hide complex systems and their inner workings behind easy looking designs… good for the standard human, not always the best for your standard administrator.

not yet the logon screen…some kind of desktop after booting has finished… a click on it reveals the logon promt.

Domain Logon. Domain Controller is running as a virtual machine on the same workstation… other domains, local accounts can be reached from here as well…

This looks like the new desktop but it is not. This is the replacement for the well known start menu… it mentions “Start” as you can see in the top left corner… The classical desktop can be found where the picture with the sunset is… the current background picture of the desktop.

There are already so many entries because I installed the RSAT toolkit for Windows 8, Server 2012 to manage the domain and other server functions remotely from windows 8… well, let’s see how many controls, functions and configuration options are there for you, the administrator, to find…

The metro design is made for your fingers and touch sensitive screens…

The future way of shopping… here in the Microsoft Store the as yet free top 100 apps… looks colorful enough. Let’s see if this will be the only way of software distribution. Again, with this concept you are about to give as much personal information away for free as you do with apple, google, facebook, android and others… and after a short while of using this systems this will be a lot of data.

A bit of paranoia and careful planning here will not be such a bad thing… that is, until the laws are there to protect you as a customer and citizen just as well as it does the companies.

Only after you “trust this local computer” will Windows 8 fully syncronise all your data, passwords, bookmarks and whatever more with everything behind… known and unknown.

From the client to the server.

The logon prompt after the classical CTRL, ALT, DEL…

e voila, the Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Desktop… right, the server shows the desktop by default… nothing much to see here, except some kind of dashboard to get a quick glance… here it is all red meaning there is some errors. But I do not care, it is all beta etc… I’m more curious to see the new options and dialogs…

Here you can arrange groups of servers, add roles and features and so on… and yes, get an overview over your groups of servers and rolles.

The Windows Server 2012 Start Menu  so to speak (this is not your classic Windows desktop), looks like this… simple enough. But where are the administrative tools…? Not yet installed…

This was the easy part…

…now for something more administrative… setting up a Active Directory Domain.

This screen is coming from the Microsoft Windows 8 client. Starting the “Active Directory Administrative Center” which of course is part of the RSAT Toolkit and not installed by default. As you can see, the client connects to the Domain Controller here and loads certain configuration options.

…and then this…changing a users password for example. This is the start screen of the administrative tools application.

The steps are the same as for earlier versions of Windows and a reboot is still necessary to make it complete. Interesting to see that WINS is still there and alive and working…

Reboot:

Remember, what you see here is the desktop. Getting to the configuration options is not the same as before even though the dialogs are the same… there is no classic start menu anymore and the metro design is not yet an efficient substitute…

After joining the Domain and rebooting the client you can for example load the Active Directory Users and Computers…

No here are a couple of performance parameters like CPU and RAM usage both of Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012.

The Windows 9 Experience Index now goes form 1.0 to 9.9. Not to bad for a virtual machine…  3D graphics would be something.
